Mistress Redpen
10 January 1972
Here are the facts:
I am 38 years of age.
I am a practitioner of Wicca, have attained my third degree through Rosewood Coven & my ordination as Wise Woman through Ecumenicon.
I have two teenaged children, both of whom are growing in many ways both vexing and wonderful.
I am a former Texan, now living in the greater Atlanta region of Georgia.
I am a veteran of the American armed forces, having served just shy of two years in the Air Force as a Mandarin Chinese linguist (1N3A4).
I write. I have published credit via roleplaying games, particularly through Shadowrun.
I am divorced.
I have a fiance, talldarkmystere, with whom I plan on creating a life together.
I have returned to college and am attempting to get a bachelor's degree in interior design. (I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, and have been accepted to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.)
I have little patience for situations or people I consider idiotic, but will exercise that patience to the utmost when I deem it necessary.
I am a registered Democrat.
I like rum. A lot.
I am full of dichotomies and self-contradictions, but hopefully without hypocrisy.
I prefer hurtful truths to comfortable lies.

All else is either conjecture or subject to change in a process of self-discovery: "One is not born a woman; one becomes one." (Simone de Beauvoir) I am interested in many things, not all of which ended up in the big list below thanks to the cap. I have many friends, but only a few very close ones that I will share very personal details with. These are the people who matter most to me and I would do nearly anything for. There are some subjects I feel very passionately about, and may occasionally voice opinions that will offend. I don't and won't apologize for what I say, only for how it may make someone feel. I don't like hurting people's feelings, but I don't let that keep me from standing by what I believe.

Life, as I am increasingly understanding, is a constant voyage of discovery and experiences. It behooves no one if you keep yourself on the sidelines. Throwing yourself in the game may mean getting hurt, but fear of that also keeps you from experiencing the joys. Stagnation, fear, inertia and all things that hold you back are the enemy. Regret nothing but what you miss out on. You never know what will happen until you try. Wisdom is only gained through experience. Shall I go on? Put on a helmet and dive in.

My journal's titles and subtitles come from a Suzanne Vega song, "Big Space": "Between the pen and the paperwork/There must be passion in the language/Between the muscle and the brain work/There must be feeling in the pipeline." This journal may occasionally dip into emo-land because I am trying to process and sort out my feelings, and because of that it can be raw and messy and uncomfortable reading. I am trying to keep more of that under wraps for my viewing alone, but anyone wanting to read my journal must keep in mind that sometimes that just doesn't happen. I mostly write in this for me, not for an audience. You're welcome to come along on my journey, however.

"To regret one's own experiences is to arrest one's own development. To deny one's own experiences is to put a lie into the lips of one's life. It is no less than a denial of the soul."
- Oscar Wilde

"Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
-- Walt Whitman, "Song of Myself"
